Clicks Keyboard for iPhone 16 is Here!
With premium materials and new ergonomically sculpted keyboard for faster and more accurate typing, Clicks is raising the bar for REAL TYPING on iPhone
Bringing a new product to market is fun, but it doesn't happen overnight. Even as we announced our iPhone 14 and 15 versions of the Clicks Keyboard to the world earlier this year, the design and engineering work was already underway for the refinements we'd pack into the next iteration of the Clicks Keyboard for iPhone 16.
What's New
While at a glance it retains the iconic shape of its iPhone 14/15 predecessors, beyond fresh colors the Clicks Keyboard for iPhone 16 packs in several new features that make for an improved user experience:
Redesigned Keyboard
Our Clicks keyboard guru, Joseph Hofer (formerly of BlackBerry's industrial design team who worked on some of our fave BBs of all time - watch this amazing profile video on Joseph when you have 8 minutes free) undertook an intensive design study to optimize the typing performance of Clicks.
The new "dipped" shape of Clicks' round keys make the buttons feel bigger under your thumbs, and the raised inner edges make it easier for your thumbs to get to their targets without even having to look at the keyboard. Beyond just feeling bigger, on the standard-sized Clicks we actually made the buttons themselves bigger too. Typing pressure has been further optimized, striking an even better balance of effortless typing comfort for longgg typing sessions while still getting that perfect click. We shrank the enter key and added a 37th button to Clicks featuring the @ and # symbol, which allowed us to pull up the % and * symbols to now live on the keyboard.
The Pro Max version of Clicks now uses the same layout as the standard-sized Clicks, sized up with extra large buttons to take advantage of the extra real estate. The Pro Max version of Clicks for the iPhone 16 is still a glorious beast (full disclosure: it's BIG), but it is THE ULTIMATE TYPING MACHINE. Literally the first time I picked up the pre-production build of the new Clicks Max I whipped out a typing test at 65WPM with 100% accuracy. This thing is dialed in. Typing on buttons is a skill - anybody who isn't able to type fast and accurately on Clicks just hasn't practiced enough. As you develop that typing skill, the Clicks hardware delivers with performance to match.
Premium Materials Inside and Out
Clicks for the iPhone 16 has a more device-like feel than its predecessor, thanks to replacing the silicon rubber side walls with TPU. This new casing means Clicks is easier to slide in and out of your pockets and offers more protection to your iPhone. It also means less of that lint-attraction property you can sometimes experience with silicon rubber.
We also added black metal keys for the volume, power and Action button which coordinate nicely with the keyboard and add an extra touch of class. Speaking of class, we even leveled up the inside of Clicks with a soft microfibre liner. Another distinction from the previous versions of Clicks is the accomodation on the right side of Clicks for the iPhone 16's new capture key.
MagSafe Support & Data Pass Through Mode
I'm happy to announce MagSafe has been added to Clicks for iPhone 16, making it better compatible with all of your favorite MagSafe accessories and charging solutions. This has been one of the most requested features from Clicks customers so I'm glad to see this checked off the "feature request" list.
And with Clicks for iPhone 16 we've added a data pass through mode so you can either fast charge Clicks through the USB-C port, or run data through it which comes in handy for features like wired CarPlay.
Three new colors that Make a Statement - Spice, Onyx and Surf!
From the moment we decided to build Clicks Technology as a company, Michael Fisher (aka MrMobile) and I knew we would use Onyx as a color name down the road and we're happy to introduce that color for Clicks for iPhone 16. Consider this an Easter Egg of sorts for all you old BlackBerry fans… but in case you don't remember, Onyx was the device code name for the BlackBerry Bold 9700… and it was such a COOL codename that we always felt BlackBerry should have named an actual phone Onyx. That never happened, so we're keeping the name alive in honor of one of our favorite BBs of all time.
If you're the kind of person who goes for more conservative colors, you're going to love Onyx. In person it's a dark, off-black color… and in some lighting conditions you'll occassionally catch a tiny hint of green in it that makes it feel super rich. Surf is a fun blue color, which is on point with the shade of blue Apple decided to go with as their hero color for iPhone 16, and Spice is terracotta-esque and gives off luxury lifestyle vibes.
Clicks Mode turns your iPhone into a remote control for your life
In addition to all of the hardware improvements in the Clicks Keyboard for the iPhone 16, all Clicks models have been benefiting from ongoing development of the Clicks Keyboard App which is available for download from the App Store.
The latest version of the Clicks app rolled out Cursor Mode, so you can use buttons on the keyboard for finite cursor control, along with more settings - you can choose whether you want the enter key to work as a soft or hardware return by default, or choose what currency you want the $ to default to.
We've also leaned harder into Clicks Mode, which allows you to use keyboard shortcuts to launch apps, dial contacts and trigger deep app actions at the press of a button (view our CrackBerry tutorial on setting up Clicks Mode). To encourage Clicks Mode use, we relabelled the button to the right of the Spacebar as Clicks Mode button, which you can choose to work as a Tab key or Ctrl key by default.
